In 2003 artist Tim Mayer began painting oil portraits of U.S. Service personnel who have lost their lives in the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Middle East. As this effort grew, Mr. Mayer formed the Artists for the Humanities (AFTH), and the making of these portraits became the Fallen Soldiers Project. The portraits from this project have played central roles in honor and memorial ceremonies organized by Mr. Mayer and presented in the Capitol Rotunda in Madison, Wisconsin. The Return and Recovery for Military Veterans Program has been established to aid combat veterans from all eras and branches of the U.S. Armed forces who suffer post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), or major depression.
